The Ultimate Moving Day Checklist for Bay Area Movers
Moving day is stressful, but a good checklist can turn chaos into calm. After 5,000+ Bay Area moves at Formosa Mover LLC, we have learned what works. Here is the checklist we share with every customer.
One Week Before
Start early. The week before your move is your last chance to prep without the time pressure of move day.
- Confirm your move date and time with your moving company
- Pack a “first night” box with toiletries, pajamas, and chargers
- Notify utilities of your move-out and move-in dates
- Update your address with banks, subscriptions, and the post office
- Use up perishable food
If you need packing services, now is the time to schedule them.
The Day Before
- Charge all your devices
- Defrost the freezer
- Pack a cooler with snacks and drinks for moving day
- Confirm parking arrangements at both locations
- Get cash for tips if you plan to tip your crew
Move Day Morning
Wake up early. Even a tight, well-planned move takes longer than expected.
- Eat a real breakfast
- Walk through every room one last time
- Make sure pets and kids are out of the way
- Greet your moving crew and do a walkthrough together
- Stay accessible for questions
During the Move
Your movers know what they are doing, but you are still the project manager. Stay nearby. Answer questions quickly. If something special needs care, point it out.
If you are moving in San Francisco, make sure parking permits are visible and the elevator is reserved if your building requires it.
After Unloading
- Check off items on your inventory list
- Do a final walkthrough of the old place
- Tip your crew if you are happy with the work
- Take photos of meter readings at both addresses
